If you don't want your kids to color the walls, furniture and your handbags, you should create a safe space and allow them to be creative while being monitored. Organise regurarly art craft activities and you can invite other kids too.

Start by purchasing a canvas set.

We have bought a set of 10 canvases for under £10.

The ideal size if you want to keep it as memory or use it as a birthday card, it is 20cm by 20cm or 20 cm by 25cm.

Use Pinterest for Inspiration when it comes with Art Craft

Children are good at imitating, but don't worry, you don't have to be a talented painter to create a beautiful painted canvas.

Start by finding inspiration. I use Pinterest to search for an idea, download the picture and print.

Use Clingfilm when you have ArtCraft time with your kids

Start with a non traditional setup and as you get more experience, purchase a nice painting kit for your child.

Use cling film to cover the area where your child will sit and other items you want to make sure they keep clean. You can find the Yellow Painting Apron in Ikea for £3, otherwise Amazon has a similar choice, find it here.

For water dispenser, you want to use a glass jar because acrylic paint can be washed easily.

“Crafting is a way to leave a mark on the world.”

If you are a beginner, use a Silicon Kitchen Brush instead

All the canvases below are painted with a Silicon Kitchen Brush. It is easy to wash, gives a nice brushed finish to your paint and it doesn't require washing after each use like a painting brush. When you become a Pro, you can buy this Paint Brush Set.

Mix it up with a Kitchen Sponge

Start by applying the acrylic paint on the canvas. Use the silicon brush to spread the paint on the surface of the canvas. Finish with gentle taps with the kitchen sponge. Make sure the sponge is dry in order to get great results.

Use cotton buds and let your child go wild

This si the part that most children love. Use an elastic band for a bunch of cotton buds, at least 3-4 and add acrylic paint wihtout water on one end. Create contrast dots. I prefer to use lighter colors.

Replace Birthday Cards with Canvas Painting Art

Create a craft activity at least once a week and plan all birthdays in advance to make sure you deliver the canvases on time. We prefer to deliver them in person if time and distance allows it as delivering them is another activity.

Be creative and add glitter or other craft supplies (according to their age).

In our last painting, we tried something unconventional and used poridge to create the textured look of sand and seashells we brought from the beach during our last trip.

When you are done, make sure you use a wet cloth to clean the the apron, your hands and your child's hands.
