Teething can be a challenging time for both babies and parents. Finding ways to ease the discomfort of teething is essential for everyone's comfort. In this journal post, we will explore some of the best teething remedies that can help alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with teething in babies.

When does teething start?

Some babies start teething as early as 4 months. If this happens to you, remember to pay attention to the signs, as around 3-4 months, babies go through a developmental stage where they tend to be fussy, eating and sleeping more or less in some cases.

Signs of Teething

The one source I trust and follow is NHS UK :

'You may notice:

  • their gum is sore and red where the tooth is coming through

  • they have a mild temperature of less than 38C

  • they have 1 flushed cheek

  • they have a rash on their face

  • they're rubbing their ear

  • they're dribbling more than usual

  • they're gnawing and chewing on things a lot

  • they're more fretful than usual

  • they're not sleeping very well'

Natural Remedies

The first time it happened to us, we were very limited with remedies due to early age, so we opted for homeopathic and home remedies.

Over-the-Counter Remedies

Look into Homeopathic Gels and teething powder as these can be used from age of 3 months. Teetha Teething Gel is a great option. Our son has enjoyed more the teething powder from Ashton and Parsons. With a wet finger, tap the teething powder and apply it on your child' gum. You are limited to how many satches you use a day, so you might want to try the Teetha Gel as an alternative, as this contains Chamomila only.

Home Remedies

Keeping the silicon toys in the freezer worked wonders for us. Alternatively I bought a pack of colorful soft silicon spoons and kept them in the freezer for Teething Soothing only. For hyginic purpose, place them in zipper bags. It depends on the baby what toys he accepts, as ours prefered simple and lighter ones. A Nuby Elephant was our little one's favourite because he found it easy to grab.

Teething Silicon Toys can make a great newborn gift.

Comforting Techniques

Ashton and Parsons teething gel comes with a brush and makes it more enjoyable for the little one to apply it. Be careful how much you squeeze because they tend to love the taste and bite on it.

Even after 2 years I don't travel without the gel or a few satches of Ashton and Parsons.

Teething Tips for Parents

Like the development stages, your baby will react in different ways each time a new tooth is pushing out. Your little one experinces pain, frustration, discomfort, temperature and if this is not be enough, add a lack of sleep too. You have to work with your partner and take shifts, to make sure you both have sufficient sleep.

If you are breastfeeding, be mindful that you might experience nipple pain and discomfort. Use the nipple gel in these days. It will not be long before your baby gets back his smile, longer sleep and eats normal.

Teething is part of parenting journey and it is challenging, that is why from experience I suggest you work as a team with your partner or ask for your family's help. I often see parents being very agitated, tired, grumpy and snappy around the teething stages. It is very important to remind yourself that the more agitated you are, the more your baby will resonate with your energy.

Remember, every baby is unique, so experimenting with different remedies is key to finding what works best for your little one.
